This song isn't really Irish!  The words were written by Shel Silverstein, the American poet.  But an Irish band made it famous, and now the whole world loves it.

The Irish Washerwoman is a traditional Irish jig.  A washerwoman is someone who washes clothes.

Mrs. W loves this song because it is fun, and also because she is an Irish woman who does a lot of laundry!

2nd Grade knows this song!  It's Rakes of Mallow.  We danced to it at our Barn Dance.  Here is a group of bagpipers from fire and police departments all over the USA playing it together.
